The Youth Council is an engaged group of active teens between the ages of 12 and 18 who produce cultural activities relevant to the concerns and issues facing youth today. Through art and artistic processes, participants gain hands-on experience that is creative, socially conscious and practical, while developing valuable leadership skills. Are you a curious teen who wants to learn about art, work with artists and other community groups, visit nearby galleries, host events, and receive volunteer hours for your work? Then the Council is the right place for you! Your application will be reviewed and you will be notified of your acceptance into the Council. Please note we have limited space, but we do keep a waiting list in case a spot opens up. Also note there is a time commitment of September through May, and only 1 absence in the fall and 2 in the winter/spring sessions are permitted. Our Visit to Forest City Gallery

Hey everyone, this is what we did March 1st. We went to the Not for Sale Art Show at the Forest City Gallery. The Not For Sale exhibit had all different kinds of art that were made by many artists that wanted to show off their more personal art that was not for sale. This exhibit was very interesting to us. I liked this exhibit because it wasn’t made up of just one kind of art, it was made up out of every kind of art. There were paintings, drawings, sculptures, video art, photography, and basically every kind of art. It was also interesting because unlike most exhibits, this one did not have a theme.

I personally like the piece titled Ultimate. This was the smallest piece in the exhibit. It was made by taking a thumbtack and dipping over and over in bright red nail polish. So on the wall that had other paintings and sculptures on it, Ultimate was stuck in the middle of the wall.

It was very cool to see art from young and emerging artist, as well as older artists. Thank you Forest City Gallery for letting us come in and take a look around!

On our way to FCG

Director Julia Beltrano was super helpful explaining the gallery and some of the work.
